The Turtle:
Most people know that if a turtle falls over on its back, it cannot turn over and if no one flips it back over, it will die. I was driving down the road by a lake one day and saw a turtle on its back. I pulled over, got out of my car and walked over to flip the turtle back on its feet. But as I reached toward the side of its shell the upside down turtle hissed and snapped with such strength that the he spun his shell and his snapping mouth toward my hand. I knew that it had to want to be upright, but it was too scared to let me help. I looked around and found a stick. As I got the leverage I needed to flip the turtle upright he hissed and growled and snapped at the stick. Finally on his feet, and without a word of thanks, he walked back toward the water. Satisfied that he was safe, I drove away, thinking of my walk with God.
There have been times when I was on my back; praying for a way to get back on my feet. Did I recognize help when it arrived? Did I stubbornly push away a friend who would have put me back on the right track? How about you? Have you ever hissed and snapped at the one who was only trying to help? Our pride keeps us on our spiritual back. We must allow those who God places in our life to flip us back over. Otherwise, we might die, upside down in our sin. ©Pamela Sonnenmoser Ministries
